Maintenance advice for spring-loaded Softairs

petitsPointilles

Despite the constant increase in the number of gas and electric models, spring-loaded guns still represent a large proportion of sales and therefore also a large number of returns. It is therefore important to be able to perform basic maintenance in-store, especially since most of the time, this is simple and fast to do.

The highly successful new pocket range is a very good example. To disassemble the pistol, proceed as follows :

1. Remove the magazine and make sure there are no more BBs in the pistol !
2. Cock the pistol and hold the breech back with one hand.
3. With the other hand, pull up the back of the breech to clear it of its slides.
4. Then, push the back of the breech up and finally pull it forwards to remove it.
5. To remove the barrel, simply remove the screws or pins underneath.
6. Hold the pump while un-cocking. Remove the pump.
7. Follow in reverse order to reassemble the gun.

With a little practice, this can all be done very quickly. The only tool required is a small Phillips-head screwdriver to remove screws and pins !

For conventional spring-loaded models (except P228 and Desert Eagles) the process is equally simple. To disassemble the pistol, proceed as follows (the P99 is slightly different) :

1. Remove the magazine and make sure there are no more BBs in the pistol !
2. Simply pull out the central cotter pin from the breech with your fingers (except with the P99 where you will need a punch to knock the pin out by striking the right side of the pistol).
3. Pull the breech forward to remove it (except with the P99, where you must first remove the small triangular part at the back of the breech).
4. To remove the pump and the barrel from the breech, now a single piece, hold the breech with one hand and pull the pump out, using a screwdriver stuck into the hole at the back of the breech.
5. To separate the barrel from the pump, remove the plastic clip then remove the metal pin.
6. Follow in reverse order to reassemble the gun.

By proceeding this way, it is possible to solve almost all the minor problems encountered with these guns.

To avoid must problems and breakdowns, it is important to use silicone oil, (readily found in hardware stores) to properly maintain the Softair product. Cleaning a Softair gun with silicone oil must be done as follows :

1. Remove the magazine and make sure there are no more BBs in the pistol !
2. First, place the small plastic tube on the aerosol can.
3. In one hand, hold the pistol with the barrel pointing up and apply the oil with the tube inserted into the barrel.
4. Cock the pistol, hold the breech back with one hand, and apply the product inside the breech, on the slides and in the pump.

This maintenance should be performed once every 100 to 200 shots.
